Two decades inside the core infrastructure of US payer systems, clearinghouses, and B2B payment networks. The throughline is the same in every chapter: structured data is the prerequisite for autonomous financial execution, and the operators who get the data layer right capture the network effects that follow.
$700B+ in cumulative payment volume across two decades. At Change Healthcare I ran the largest commercial B2B payment operation in US healthcare, $160B a year. One clean institutional exit. Three books on the structural shift from manual back-office finance to autonomous, agent-driven settlement.
Now: Finexio
I co-founded Finexio, serve as Chief Operating Officer, and sit on the board. We scaled greenfield from pre-revenue to $20M ARR and $12B+ in annual payment volume since founding it in 2018. Finexio runs B2B payments on multi-bank orchestration. The platform settles roughly 15 million payments a year, about $800 on average, without proportional headcount growth, replacing manual reconciliation with a structured data schema that enforces B2B payment logic across regulated environments.
Thesis: B2B payments fail at the data layer, not the money-movement layer. Convert unstructured supplier data into a deterministic schema and autonomous settlement falls out. The human-in-the-loop disappears for standard transactions. Network liquidity expands. Basis points scale without headcount.
Before: a $400M P&L and one clean exit
Change Healthcare · General Manager, B2B & Patient Payments. General Manager of a 350-person organization with full ownership of a $400M P&L at the largest US healthcare clearinghouse, $160B/yr in volume. Normalized claims data into structured schemas for automated adjudication under HIPAA. Turned a print-and-mail remittance business into an $8B virtual-card operation, $80M net-new revenue in 18 months.
American Imaging Management (AIM) · $300M WellPoint acquisition (2007). Led a national patient safety initiative that reduced unnecessary diagnostic imaging, measurably lowering population exposure to ionizing radiation. Joined pre-acquisition and stayed through the exit as Head of Patient Safety, Utilization Management, and Business Intelligence.
Ran the business intelligence team embedded in the sales organization. Took pre-authorization intake from fax and phone to fully digital. Stripped $150M+ in administrative overhead through automation and structured data models. Built the data infrastructure and operational model that drove WellPoint's $300M acquisition thesis for AIM.
Parasail Health · Co-Founder, Chief Commercial Officer. Architected and scaled patient finance infrastructure to bridge structural liquidity gaps in the healthcare revenue cycle. Built lending products that let patients pay medical bills over time. Hospitals got their cash sooner and wrote off less. Earned recognition from Accenture HealthTech Innovation Challenge and Healthbox Studio. The platform was acquired by PayZen in 2019, and I moved over as a strategic advisor, a seat I still hold. I had begun co-founding Finexio in 2018 as Parasail wound down toward that acquisition, which is why the two dates overlap.
UnitedHealth Group · Network Optimization & Pricing Strategy. Consolidated provider networks across a 45M-member risk pool after a period of rapid growth through acquisition. Designed optimized networks using overlap analysis to maximize coverage and reduce network cost. Built premium pricing models using ordinal array analysis to reverse-engineer competitor pricing. Drove a 30% increase in deal closure rate by redirecting sales capital toward accounts with favorable pricing math.
